According to the LA Times McCain has repeatedly lied about accounts of how his divorce ended and how his marriage began. Why wasn’t this revealed earlier and why hasn’t the media covered this? Don’t ask me.
- McCain said in his 2000 book, “I spent as much time with Cindy in Washington and Arizona as our jobs would allow,” McCain wrote. “I was separated from Carol, but our divorce would not become final until February of 1980.”. This indicated that he had separated from Carol before he began dating Hensley. But according to court documents, McCain did not sue his wife for divorce until Feb. 19, 1980, and he wrote in his court petition that he and his wife had “cohabited” until Jan. 7 of that year — or for the first nine months of his relationship with Hensley.
- LA Times also write that, “Although McCain suggested in his autobiography that months passed between his divorce and remarriage, the divorce was granted April 2, 1980, and he wed Hensley in a private ceremony five weeks later. McCain obtained an Arizona marriage license on March 6, 1980, while still legally married to his first wife.”
The LA Times article also says how this ruined McCain’s relationship with the Regan family.

Yeah,
I’m dubious about talking about McCain’s past marriage. The man was just back from Nam and like many marriages amongst vets coming back, it fell apart. What he decided to say at the time and what he might of said since then out of shame… whatever may not be the most honest but it is understandable.
I feel as if this is an issue which should be left out of the election campaign, and i admire the fact that the democrats have refused to talk about it.

Republicans claim to be the party of family values, and this is what they got. A man who divorced his wife just because she didn’t look like cindy mccain. he admitted that was the reason he divorced her. republicans want to call obama “foreign” and “exotic” and “not one of us”. Yet obama is the moral family guy while McCain cheated on his wife.
There are many military men who come back from war and stay with their wives. And this should not be an excuse to do other wise just because carol mccain didn’t look as hot as cindy. I don’t find it understandable.
I say thanks Yilian for writing a great post and putting McCain out there for the lier that he is.
You know, I’ve almost blogged this a few times myself so I’ve done some extensive reading on the matter and its really not as simple as you make it. McCain really didn’t act honorably but I can’t morally justify poking around in other peoples marriages.
I’ll blog this later.
