McCain lies about his voting record on energy

McLie is maybe a new nickname for him.  Before he lied to a fellow veteran about his voting record on veteran issues.  Now he lied about energy.  He said that he has never missed any crucial vote on energy.  McCain hasn’t voted in the senate since April 2008, so obviously logic isn’t his strong suit.  When you don’t  vote in the senate that essentially means a no vote, because thats one person that isn’t voting for the bill.  Here’s what McCain said about his “not missing crucial votes” on energy.

ThinkProgress pointed this McCain lie out.  Lets look at the energy votes that McCain has missed, shall we,

December 13, 2007, 09:54 AMH.R. 6 (Renewable Fuels, Consumer Protection, and Energy Efficiency Act of 2007 )

  • An Act to move the United States toward greater energy independence and security, to increase the production of clean renewable fuels, to protect consumers, to increase the efficiency of products, buildings, and vehicles, to promote research on and deploy greenhouse gas capture and storage options, and to improve the energy performance of the Federal Government, and for other purposes.
  • McCain was the only senator to not vote

February 6, 2008, 05:46 PMS.Amdt. 3983 to H.R. 5140 (Recovery Rebates and Economic Stimulus for the American People Act of 2008 )

  • ThinkProgress notes In February, McCain skipped a vote on extending tax credits to renewables
  • Uh Oh McCain again, the only senator to not vote

March 13, 2008, 02:50 PMS.Amdt. 4329 to S.Con.Res. 70 (No short title on file)

  • To establish a deficit-neutral reserve fund to improve energy efficiency and production.
  • McCain was the only didn’t Vote

June 21, 2007, 11:25 PMH.R. 6 (CLEAN Energy Act of 2007 )

  • An Act to move the United States toward greater energy independence and security, to increase the production of clean renewable fuels, to protect consumers from price gouging, to increase the energy efficiency of products, buildings, and vehicles, to promote research on and deploy greenhouse gas capture and storage options, and to improve the energy performance of the Federal Government, and for other purposes.
  • McCain didn’t Vote

June 21, 2007, 12:22 PMS.Amdt. 1704 to S.Amdt. 1502 to to H.R. 6 (CLEAN Energy Act of 2007 )

  • To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide for energy advancement and investment, and for other purposes.
  • I think you get the point, but again McCain didn’t Vote

June 19, 2007, 05:25 PMS.Amdt. 1519 to S.Amdt. 1502 to to H.R. 6 (CLEAN Energy Act of 2007 )

  • To amend the Sherman Act to make oil-producing and exporting cartels illegal.
  • You would think this would be important, but not to McCain, who along with 5 other senators didn’t vote on, but it passed.

June 14, 2007, 05:30 PMS.Amdt. 1566 to S.Amdt. 1502 to to H.R. 6 (CLEAN Energy Act of 2007 )

  • To authorize the State of Virginia to petition for authorization to conduct natural gas exploration and drilling activities in the coastal zone of the State.
  • McCain likes to say, “drill, drill, drill” yet he didn’t show up to vote for a bill that would drill, drill, drill.

June 14, 2007, 11:58 AMS.Amdt. 1538 to S.Amdt. 1537 to S.Amdt. 1502 to H.R. 6

  • To provide for the establishment of a Federal clean portfolio standard.
  • Again, McCain didn’t bother to vote

June 2, 2008, 05:32 PMS. 3036 (Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act of 2008 )

  • A bill to direct the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency to establish a program to decrease emissions of greenhouse gases, and for other purposes.
  • McCain didn’t vote

We can argue what is considered “crucial” but the Liebermann-Warner Act and the vote he missed that would strip tax giveaways to oil companies are crucial nonetheless.  He even missed a vote to drill off-shore, something that he is currently using as a political issue.

McCain is rank the number 1 most absent senator in congress.  Since McCain and Obama are senators all we have to look at is their votes in the senate.  McCain skipping out on votes can mean that he really doesn’t care about the energy issue.  Based on the polls many Americans already don’t trust McCain to handle our energy problems and the fact that he decided not to vote on many crucial energy votes seem to reinforce this.  Voting records tell us a lot about what the candidates stand for and will fight for.   Seems like energy independence isn’t something McCain will fight for.

He missed a lot of other votes like on S.3335 and H.R. 6049

I guess his definitions are different than mine. I’m sure he’s not a liar.

Obama & Clinton didn’t vote regarding the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act of 2008, either.

The point is that McCain claims he didn’t miss any crucial votes, and Im just point out the crucial votes that he did miss. Clinton and Obama didn’t lie and say they didn’t miss any crucial vote, McCain did.
