Is Palin Too Dumb 4 Normal Debates? McCain Camp Thinks So

Palin After A Normal Debate

Palin After A Normal Debate

The McCain campaign was able to get the debate format changed so that Sarah Palin can have an easier time. I can’t even believe that the McCain campaign would admit that shes not ready. What the hell happened to equal treatment?  Maybe we should just have a whole bunch of leaders in the White House who are whimps…then maybe, just maybe then we can stand up to Putin.  Honestly, the bar, sadly, has been set low for Palin, so I don’t even think the debate should have been changed, all she had to do was show up and she would have got sympathy points.  This from the NYT,

The Obama and McCain campaigns have agreed to an unusual free-flowing format for the three televised presidential debates, which begin Friday, but the McCain camp fought for and won a much more structured approach for the questioning at the vice-presidential debate, advisers to both campaigns said Saturday.

Senator John McCain, at a speech in Wisconsin on Friday, will go to Mississippi this week for the first of three debates with Senator Barack Obama.

At the insistence of the McCain campaign, the Oct. 2 debate between the Republican nominee for vice president, Gov. Sarah Palin, and her Democratic rival, Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., will have shorter question-and-answer segments than those for the presidential nominees, the advisers said. There will also be much less opportunity for free-wheeling, direct exchanges between the running mates.

McCain advisers said they had been concerned that a loose format could leave Ms. Palin, a relatively inexperienced debater, at a disadvantage and largely on the defensive.

The wrangling was chiefly between the McCain-Palin camp and the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates, which is sponsoring the forums.

Commission members wanted a relaxed format that included time for unpredictable questioning and challenges between the two vice-presidential candidates. On Wednesday, the commission unanimously rejected a proposal sought by advisers to Ms. Palin and Senator John McCain of Arizona, the Republican presidential nominee, to have the moderator ask questions and the candidates answer, with no time for unfettered exchanges. Advisers to Mr. Biden say they were comfortable with either format.

Both campaigns see the four debates as pivotal moments in a presidential race that is not only extraordinarily close but also drawing intense interest from voters; roughly 40 million viewers watched the major speeches at the two parties’ conventions. The upheaval in the financial markets has recast the race in recent days, moreover, which both sides believe will only heighten attention for the debates.

A commission member said that the new agreement on the vice-presidential debate was reached late Saturday morning. It calls for shorter blocks of candidate statements and open discussion than at the presidential debates.

McCain advisers said they were only somewhat concerned about Ms. Palin’s debating skills compared with those of Mr. Biden, who has served six terms in the Senate, or about his chances of tripping her up. Instead, they say, they wanted Ms. Palin to have opportunities to present Mr. McCain’s positions, rather than spending time talking about her experience or playing defense.

While the debates between presidential nominees are traditionally the main events in the fall election season, the public interest in Ms. Palin has proved extraordinary, and a large audience is expected for her national debate debut.

Indeed, both the McCain and Obama campaigns have similar concerns about the vice-presidential matchup in St. Louis: that Ms. Palin, of Alaska, as a new player in national politics, or Mr. Biden, of Delaware, as a loquacious and gaffe-prone speaker, could commit a momentum-changing misstep in their debate.

The negotiations for the three 90-minute debates between the men at the top of the tickets were largely free of brinksmanship. Neither side threatened to pull out, and concerns about camera angles and stagecraft were minor.

So, basically expect to see Palin saying, “Thanks but no thanks for that Bridge to Nowhere” and “I put it on eBay” and possibly she will still be asking, “I still need someone to explain to me…exactly what a VP does all day?”

I believe that the correct word would be “stupid”, not “dumb” and I think that they feel she would completely derail the campaign should the debate actually be a “free flowing” debate. In this new format, it will be scripted, with preplanned questions and answers. I am not surprised.

OMG. Sensico said “dumb.” She is making fun of handicapped people!

(Don’t mind me. I’m taking lessons from the Obama campaign on how to deflect criticism)

But seriously, why would the Obama ticket agree to this unless they had their own concerns about the Biden/Palin debate?

In fact, the article mentions that very thing. I guess you just didn’t want to bold that part.

And do you need a reminder as to who Lohan supports for presiednt?

Here’s a hint: His name begins with “O” and ends with “bama.”

Maybe that picture better demonstrates what Obama used to look like after he did “a little coke.”

First, who doesn’t expect Biden to make a gaffe, it’s nothing new, which is why it isn’t worth putting in bold letters.

Need I remind you Britney Spears supports someone who’s name begins with “Mc” and ends with “Cain”.

The point is I don’t care what celebrity supports Obama, if they are worthy making fun of, then I’m going to make fun of them.

Need I remind you the Sarah Palin smoked marijuana, and it wasn’t for “medical” reason…even :-P

Isn’t blaming people of sexism every time someone asks Sarah Palin a “tough” question deflecting criticism…or what about “lipstick-gate” isn’t that deflecting from the real issues in this election.

I would think as a republican you would find it helpful to criticize your own party for being, politically correct all the time.

I’ll have to admit, I hadn’t heard about the Spears endorsement.

Why I called you out on failure to bold that portion was not because of its mention of Biden being a gaffe factory, but that it specifically states that both campaigns have similar concerns about the VP debates. Which kind of laughs in the face of any arguement that it is only Palin who needs the break here. To be honest, I am disappointed. I was really looking forward to this debate.

I have read numerous blog posts on this, now. And not 1 has mentioned that part of the article. So I’ll credit you with even including it at all.

Pigs and lipstick is old news. However, Obama’s surrogates crying racism is becoming literally a daily occurance.

I criticize my party at my own blog. On other blogs I have to sharpen my elboes and get into people’s face to support my candidate. Obama said it was OK.

Red Pill, you’ve got me puzzled here. I’ll give you a complete opening. For the week ending September 20, please cite for us, day by day, the Obama campaign’s cries of racism. I’d love to see it.

On the contrary, the past week has been consumed with our crash and burn financial markets, a crisis Senator McCain has proven himself utterly impotent at tackling.

As for Sarah being given a handicap in the upcoming debate, it is yet another terrible blow to feminism in this country. While black men can proudly say to their sons that with hard work anything is possible, women are stuck with the advice, “just look pretty and have a ‘compelling story’ and the world will beat a path to your door.” Betty Friedan is spinning in her grave.

Well, Rutherford. For starters, I also included Obama surrogates, which by now certainly includes people within the MSM. And with that….

Tues 16th: Kathleen Sebelius and Jack Cafferty.

Wed 17th: Obama’s Rush Limbaugh Ad.

Thursday seems to have been a rest day. But I’m confident I could find one if this were a paying job.

Fri 19th: NYT on Raines and Ohio Obama Surrogates.

    Sat 20th: AP-Yahoo News poll

    Sunday looks like another Thurs.

    Mon 22nd: Another AP article.

It’s becoming undeniable. Race is being injected into this election. And it isn’t by the Republicans, no matter how many times Obama wants to warn you differently.

And can you show me what “handicap” Palin is recieving in the debate that Biden isn’t also recieving? I already showed where both tickets admit they had debate concerns. What more do you want?

  10. Posted September 22, 2008 at 6:04 pm | Permalink | Reply

First, here’s a newsflash, Cafferty and NYT colunmist aren’t part of Obama’s campaign.

The Limbaugh ad wasn’t even racist, I find it funny that republicans are trying to be politically correct this year.

And race is a factor, so is gender and age…I don’t see how pointing out the obvious is racism.

I think citing a news organization which is also not part of Obama’s campaign, isn’t helping you make your point.
As far as Sebelius is concerned Im not going to believe a wingnut blog like Hot Air, who cites themselves as to why I should believe that somehow AP removed a sebelius quote. I try to deal with facts not conspiracy theories.

Now maybe I should quote you,

Pigs and lipstick is old news. However, Obama’s surrogates crying racism is becoming literally a daily occurance.

    Still waiting…

Sarah Palin is the smartest person on the planet and can do it all:

Again, I didn’t say only the Obama campaign. I also included his surrogates. And if you can deny that much of the MSM does not fall into that catagory and be able to maintain a straight face, then I think we’re about done here.

If these are not Obama surrogates, then let him denounce what they say. It’s really that simple.

You can discount my source of Hot Air all you want. But you citing the New York Times isn’t any better. They are so far in the tank for Barack Obama it is becoming undenyable.

The Rush ad wasn’t racist? Claiming that McCain has a connection to Rush’s out-of-context racist comments isn’t attempting to put a racist tag on John McCain?

You try to deal with facts and not conspiracy theories. And at the same time claim that it’s the McCain camp dumbing down the debate for Palin, while completely ignoring the fact that both tickets admit to concerns?

Yeah, I see how you deal with facts and conspiracies.

  13. Posted September 22, 2008 at 10:29 pm | Permalink | Reply

Please, lets just go visit FOX News and see who tank they are in. Honestly, I just recommend watching c-span, but thats just me. And need I remind you that McCain had a party for the media at one of his 11 houses and many of the press people you would say are in the tank where getting wined and dined my the McCains http://sensico.wordpress.com/2008/07/23/media-unfair-to-mccain-meghan-mccain-seems-to-differ/

If NYT isn’t a legitimate news organization because they don’t agree with you or McCain, then why has McCain cited them 60 times in his ads. If the NYT isn’t legitimate then the majority of McCain’s ad aren’t legitimate and you just helped make the case that McCain’s ad aren’t true.

Unless I hear Obama say McCain is racist them we will just have to agree to disagree on that one. Again, political correctness is unbecoming of the republican party.

I think its pretty obvious that the McCain campaign has little to no confidence in Palin’s ability to handle these issues or they wouldn’t have suggested that they have no confidence in her abilities. And technically I suggested that the McCain campaign thinks she’s too dumb for debates. She’s obviously isn’t dumb if she got this far, so I suggest the McCain campaign starts acting like she’s smart, by letting her do more interviews, maybe have real townhall meetings by herself where shes not, not answering questions directly.

    Here’s my short references

Again, unless you have proof that NYT or AP or Cafferty are being paid by the Obama campaign then your argument is useless.
Love the debate, I think your losing :-P

My additional two cents …. I can’t sign up for making the MSM surrogates for Obama. If the MSM spots racism, it’s their obligation to report it. I think the Obama campaign has been remarkably restrained in their reaction to blatant racism and codified language.

The point that both campaigns are concerned about their VP’s debate performances evades the nature of that concern. The Dem’s worry Biden will gaffe … not that he won’t be able to answer questions. The ‘Pubs are scared that Sarah will come up with another “Alaska is next to Russia” comment in the debate. Very different motivations for concern if you ask me.

Democrats and liberals are underestimating Sarah Palin. But this young woman might close the deal for McCain with an excellent performance next October 2d. This debate might as well be the most watched political debate in history(just because of her).

I kind of agree Palin does make for a good laugh and that’s one of the reasons I’ll be watching. I can’t wait for her to try to seriously explain (again) why Russia being close to Alaska is somehow foreign policy experience.

Actually I have been thinking about that, and read that shes not going to release her tax returns until after the election…which by then would make no sense for her to release her records at all.
