Revenge of The Evangelical Huckabee

Apparently, now that the campaign is over republicans are starting to feel free to say what they really mean.  Honestly, I thought after the campaign that there would be unity amongst republican rivals…apparently I was way wrong.  Huckabee was going on the typical “selling of the book” tour.  In this case the book is Do The Right Thing: Inside the Movement That’s Bringing Common Sense Back to America. He definitely did some settling of the score, and a lot of settling on Mitt Romney.  I don’t know why people found Mitt Romney annoying, I kind of liked him.  Anyways, this is what the Huckster said about Mitt Romney, excerpts via Time,

Mitt Romney, Huckabee’s principal rival in Iowa, receives the roughest treatment. Huckabee writes that the former Massachusetts governor’s record was “anything but conservative until he changed the light bulbs in his chandelier in time to run for president.” He notes that Romney declined to make a congratulatory phone call after Huckabee beat the odds to win the Iowa caucuses, “which we took as a sign of total disrespect.” He mocks Romney for suggesting, during one debate, more investment in high-yield stocks as a solution to economic woes. “Let them eat stocks!” Huckabee jokes.

That is kind of bad for Romney not to congratulate Huckabee.  But, Romney could have kissed Huckabee’s evangelical ass and still not be considered conservative enough for Huckabee.  He also said this about Fred Thompson, and I definitely agree with him on this one.

“Fred Thompson never did grasp the dynamics of the race or the country, and his amazingly lackluster campaign reflected just how disconnected he was with the people, despite the anticipation and expectation that greeted his candidacy,”

Fred Thompson was just a complete embarrassment.  I didn’t even know why the hell he was in the race.  Just because you sound like you can be president doesn’t mean conservatives had to kiss his ass.  I have a real issue with this next account, not with Huckabee so much, but as why the hell people do things like this,

He also returns again and again to stories of his supporters, like the woman who gave him her wedding ring on a rope line in Michigan because she could not afford to make a contribution to his campaign and the truck driver who appeared on his behalf at public rallies. “I was only carrying mail to the mailboxes,” he writes. “It was the salt-of-the-earth types like my unknown angel in Michigan who actually wrote the letters.”

OK so I can understand why people would feel so inspired by a presidential candidate, but c’mon.  I hope she got her wedding ring back which she could have pawned off to get some money.  I just don’t feel that enamored by candidates enough to be giving away precious items like that.  I find it unnecessary, as me and my friends would say, “honey you doin’ too much, it’s not that serious”.  Anyways, my verdict on the book is go to Barnes and Noble, read the book while your there but don’t buy ;-)

UPDATE: Mitt Romney camp responds,

Asked to respond, Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom said Huckabee was acting small.
“This type of pettiness is beneath Mike Huckabee,” Fehrnstrom. “If we’re going to move the party forward, we need to offer more than personal recriminations. Unfortunately, in this book, Mike Huckabee is consumed with presumed slights, and he seems more interested in settling scores than in bringing people together.”

come on, they could have come with a better come back then that.

AS long as the Republicans continue to eat each other alive perhaps once they have purged themselves they will get back to actually being Republicans not Theocrats.

Why doesn’t Mike Huckabee just stick to preaching…I wish all these church types would just keep their mouths when it comes to politics, they have far too much sway as far as I’m concerned!!!
As for Fred Thompson…well, he was a real ray of sunshine and full of vigor during the primaries wasn’t he…NOT!!!
He is just another actor playing at politics and needs to go away, another character who needs to go away is Mr 911 (Rudy)…the man is a motor mouthed waste of space.
But they are all out there now, blaming each other for their failure to win the White House….the truth is they lost because they are all useless and nobody with any sense wanted ANY OF THEM to win.

    I thought this was good!!

We are educated by the great entertainers like Rush Limbaugh,” Hagel said Tuesday during a speech in Washington, according to the Huffington Post.

“You know, I wish Rush Limbaugh and others like that would run for office,” a sarcastic Hagel continued. “They have so much to contribute and so much leadership and they have an answer for everything. And they would be elected overwhelmingly. [The truth is] they try to rip everyone down and make fools of everybody but they don’t have any answers.”

    My Response:

What a sensible and honest man….I just hope when Obama is President he can sort all those nut case radio station hosts out, it’s about time someone did something about them.
Chuck Hagel is one of the very few decent Republicans and he has earned the respect of many Democrats…..a lot more Republicans could learn from him.

Yeah, Hagel is one of my favorite republicans ever!!! And I agree with you when you said,

the truth is they lost because they are all useless and nobody with any sense wanted ANY OF THEM to win.

You are completely right, not one of the republican candidates were standing out as the best possible choice, the only reason they chose McCain was because the democrats were on TV saying they didn’t want to run against McCain. And I may have actually liked McCain early during the campaign season, but once I looked at his record and plans, he didn’t have much to offer but the same. The republicans were definitely duds this election.

I love the unity throughout the GOP.
McCain’s camp beats up Palin. The Republican governor’s join in the fun.
    Hagel goes after Limbaugh.
Fox drops E.D. Hill. The Huckster swipes at Mitt.
I’m waiting for the Pawlenty – Coleman skirmish in Minnesota.

By the way, my favorite Republican is Lincoln Chafee followed by Olympia Snowe. Hagel definitely has had a rebirth lately.

And now the Huck says he’s been envious of Palin. I say, why be envious. Just jump on board. Try to become her running mate in 2012. Two nutbag creationists on the same ticket. The Independents, let alone the intellectual conservatives, will never get behind either of these candidates. How do you say 8 years of Obama?

and my2bucks, I expect Obama will put Hagel in some post. I hope he does pull in some smart moderate Republicans into his Cabinet.

Palin-Huck in 2012 would be Obama-Biden’s dream. My dream as well, it would be an easy race for Obama. All one has to do is sit back, shut Biden up, and lets Palin make the gaffes and let Huck continue to bash gays for no reason and that spells an Obama WIN!!!
