Well when I first heard the story I was inclined not to care, but I just thought I’d bring up something that was annoying me about Rev. Wright’s comments and this whole situation. The AP reported,
On Thursday, Wright was addressing more than 700 people at a mass meeting that kicked off the 44th anniversary celebration of the 1965 Selma-to-Montgomery voting rights march.
The event was held at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, site of the first mass meeting that led to the watershed voting rights movement in Selma.
During his address, Wright cautioned against putting too much faith in Obama.
“Barack’s name ain’t Jesus. Barack ain’t gonna improve your child’s reading score. There are things we’ve got to do on our own,” he said.
Obama may no longer associate with Wright, but the program for the event featured a picture of the two, smiling together, on the front.
The decision to invite Wright drew criticism from opponents including Obama’s Alabama campaign chairman, U.S. Rep. Artur Davis.
“I am offended by the vehemence of Wright’s commentaries on race in America. President Obama was similarly offended,” Davis said in an open letter to event organizers at the National Voting Rights Museum and Institute. Davis represents the state’s 7th Congressional District, which extends from Birmingham to rural west Alabama.
Obviously I’d agree with the fact that Obama isn’t Jesus. One thing I did find weird about this was that a smiling picture of Obama and Wright was put on the event flyer. It just seems ironic or hypocritical that he would talk bad about Obama after the election yet, use him as a promotional tool for the event. Especially putting a picture of the two of them together, when it’s quite obvious that Obama and Wright are not “cool”. I don’t know, I just thought it was a little weird.

Yilian it’s all about the almighty dollar.
I think everyone pretty much is in agreement by now that Wright is no more than an annoying crackpot who doesn’t seem to want to go away. Using Obama’s picture in the promotion to draw people in and then disparaging the President in front of the audience is nothing more than a feeble attempt by Wright to push himself back into the limelight for a few days. Also interesting is the rebuttal by Artur Davis, whom I consider the only Congressman with a conscience. Davis is the only one to yet issue an apology for his role with the Democrats in trying to cover up the corruption and crimes of Franklin Delano Raines at Freddie Mac.
Who created the flyer? Are you sure Rev. Wright had anything to do with it? Perhaps it was the organizers of the event. Typically I wouldn’t think a flyer would be put together by the guest speaker. I don’t think Rev. Wright was being critical of Obama, he was just returning to a fairly typical theme for him which is self reliance. As to the issue of self promotion, it was Rev. Wright who insisted that there be no video coverage of his sermon, other then for use by the museum. Rev. Wright has moved on and returned to his very active speaking and preaching schedule. He can’t prevent the media from covering the events, but he has restricted the video coverage at most of the events. I don’t think that is very consistent with someone seeking more limelight. Davis’s comments were a prebuttal not a rebuttal, as they were issued prior to Rev. Wright’s appearance in an attempt to prevent Rev. Wright from speaking at the event. I heard Rev. Wright make the observation about a month ago that the only person Obama can’t meet with in the whole world is Rev. Wright.
