New RNC Ad: “The Obama Card”

I must admit the ad is rather clever with nice wholesome music in the background.  First, heres the web ad, The Obama Card,

There is something weird about this.  The fact that at the beginning it says, “political satire” is the first weird thing.  Mainly, because in that ad where it mentions political cronies is the actual argument that the GOP is using in regards to Obamas spending.  So, was the GOP performing satire this whole time?  Also, if the 787 billion went to political cronies, then why is the GOP accepting that money and why did some of them add earmarks in that bill.  And technically, if drowning the country in debt is priceless, then the rest of the stuff in the video doesn’t contribute to the “drowning” of America.  Am I missing something? Debt means something to be owed.  If America is drowned in priceless debt, then it isn’t debt and we shouldn’t have a monetary system at all if thats the case.  Based on this ad it seems as though they mainly wanted to mention the 787 billion dollars, but they threw in that other stuff to kind of fill up time in the video.  Essentially because, would the country not be in debt if Obama didn’t get a dog or didn’t go to a basketball game.  It’s just silly to think without a dog that the country wouldn’t be in debt.  Not only that, but if Obama didn’t have a dog, the GOP would start the second coming of a culture war.  But, maybe I’m reading too much into it :)

The Obamas brought some much needed culture to the White House by holding the first ever Poetry Slam.  Just an opportunity to bring the arts to White House.  Poetry was spoken by those from various cultures and backgrounds.  You can read more about the event here and read the transcript of Michelle and Barack’s statements here.  Below are some pictures from the event gathered from various locations on the web like HuffPo, TPM, AFP.  Mainly of Michelle Obama because she looked gorgeous!

Sri Lanka, Unreleased Photos, and Cell Phones

Today was a pretty busy day at the White House.  If you haven’t heard yet there’s a conflict in Sir Lanka.  Obama commented on the conflict in Sri Lanka by saying,

The United States is deeply concerned about the plight of innocent civilians caught up in the conflict between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Tamil Tigers, and the mounting death toll.  We call on both sides to stop fighting immediately and allow civilians to safely leave the combat zone.

We call upon the Government of Sri Lanka to stop shelling the “safe zone” and blocking international aid groups and media from accessing those civilians who have managed to escape.  International aid workers should have access to all sites where internally displaced persons are being registered and sheltered.  The United States is working with international partners to attempt to care for those civilians who can be reached.

We call on both sides to strictly adhere to their obligations under international humanitarian law. We are very concerned about reports of violations, and take these allegations very seriously.

It would compound the current tragedy if the military end of the conflict only breeds further enmity and ends hopes for reconciliation and a unified Sri Lanka in the future.

Politco 44 reported that,

Just minutes after POTUS called for a cessation of hostilities in Sri Lanka, the protestors outside Lafayette Park have altered their chant to, “President Obama, President Obama: Thank you! Thank you!”

I personally don’t care if photos of people being tortured is released or not.  Nonetheless, the President reversed decision on releasing the photos saying they could cause conflict.

Meanwhile the republicans in Washington like John Boehner are happy with Pres. Obama’s decision not to release the photos.  I’m assuming because these photos would make the GOP look bad.  In a way how would releasing these photos help anything?  We already know about what happened, seeing the photos now would be more for shock purposes and so liberals can blame this all on Bush, though I’m not saying it wouldn’t be right to blame this on the Bush administration.  Not only that, but it would aid terrorist and help in their recruiting.  I really don’t get why releasing these photos are so important when we’ve seen this before.  Sorry for my don’t care attitude on these photos, but I don’t care about them being release.  Either way, Obama reversed his decision on his reasoning for not releasing these photos.  I’m actually curious to know what he thought these photos would look like before reversing his decision.  I mean, when he promised to release the photos he couldn’t have thought the photos would show America in a better light.

White House Press Secretary Gibbs was supposed to be questioned on Pres. Obama’s decision to not release the photos.  It must have been Gibbs’s lucky day today.  During the press avail. many of the White House press’s cell phones went off during the question and answer session.  Now, I’m not saying the press is screwing up, but they really should know proper protocol already.  This reminds me of high school, especially the idiot at the end that wouldn’t hand his phone over to Gibbs.

Sarah Palin Is A Joke!

She’s at the level of Michelle Bachman now.  I was going to title this post, Why Palin can’t be President, unfortunately to suggest her being President one day is a joke.  So, if she does run in 2012 then the reason is because she’s become a joke.  She is like a Soap Opera that’s only marketed now to one segment of the population.  In this case, the population is those that like celebrity gossip.  No one wants to vote for that.

First, lets not forget that her bad Couric interviews, suggesting people hang out with terrorist, and starting culture wars didn’t help her in the eyes of the American people.  Nonetheless, she could have recovered from her failings during the 2008 election.  Now, not like I should care anyways, but she can’t recover as a politician over whats going on now.  It’s like Jerry Springer except without physical violence. Here’s a list of Soap Opera like drama that she’s been through,

  1. After the election it was about whether or not the RNC was going to get the expensive clothes back.
  2. She even held serious interviews talking about the damn clothes, it made her look foolish.
  3. Then Levi’s mother was arrested for drug trafficking and people were talking about Palin in the same context.
  4. Palin did various interviews talking about the campaign, blaming bloggers and “liberal media”.  She was essentially reminding some of us, of why we didn’t vote for her.
  5. Later we were talking about how Palin possibly helped Levi get a job and that this is a conflict of interest.  Cause apparently, you have to be in high school to be an apprentice and Levi is a drop out.  He has since quit that job.
  6. Then Bristol had a baby and everyone was talking about that and the ridiculous name.  They called him “Tripp”.  I’m sure kids at school will come up with more creative names for him.  Unless this is an Alaska thing, then the name “Tripp” would be ok.
  7. Levi apparently wasn’t allowed to see his son so he went on a media tour with his mom and sister showing off their brother-sister tattoos that weirded people out.  Sure the hell weirded me out…
  8. Palin’s camp had no choice to respond to this Jerry Springer feud with Levi, so they responded keeping the talk shows on this subject for like a week!
  9. Bristol Palin, now wants to go around promoting abstinance only sex education.  The same abstinence only education that didn’t work with her, obviously.
  10. Through all of this and now that some of the drama is over, Palin keep skipping important GOP meetings.  Making republicans lash out at her.  A word of advice is that, if you don’t wanna go to an event, tell them.  Don’t say you’re going and then a day or 2 later back out of the event. Nor should you have a Fox News host act as a handler to take your husband, which was exactly what happened when Greta Van Susteren took Todd Palin to the White House Correspondents dinner.
  11. Also, through all of this she has been bogged down by ethics complaints.  It really became a joke when her lawyers had to go after a website called crackho.com.
  12. Now she’s writing her memoir.  She’ll be essentially telling her side of the story while rehashing the same crap thats making her look ridiculous.  Not only that, but it’ll most likely keep her in the news cycle.

She’ll also be going after “anonymous bloggers” in her new book.  How stupid is it that you’re a politician fighting about what “anonymous bloggers” say.  Yet, at the same time she wants people to not pay attention to what “anonymous bloggers” say about her.   It’s one thing to read a blog as a politician, it’s another to get bogged down in feuds. Whether Sarah Palin indirectly or directly had something to do with what I listed above isn’t the point, the point is that her and her family feuds is now a joke.  Who can take her seriously after all of this, I know I can’t.  I want politicians working on solutions not being involved in petty irrelevant squabbles.  I think this is what the majority of Americans want out of a politician they are willing to vote for.  That’s why if Sarah Palin is to run in 2012, then I do not see her going very far.

Tea Party 2.0 Coming Soon

Republicans are planning another tea party extravaganzaaa! Lets hope it’s not filled with a whole bunch of fringe republicans this time. Though, I doubt that would be the case.  Politico reports,

Hoping to recapture the grassroots energy of last month’s “tea parties,” Republican Govs. Mark Sanford of South Carolina and Rick Perry of Texas will host a tele-town hall Thursday that’s being dubbed “Tea Party 2.0.”

The Republican Governors Association said it is expecting 30,000 people to participate in the town hall, which will take place roughly one month after the much-publicized anti-tax tea party rallies held in hundreds of locations across the country on April 15, the tax filing deadline.

Sanford and Perry will each speak for several minutes before opening up the town hall to up to an hour-long question and answer session.

RGA Executive Director Nick Ayers said that while the effort Thursday will be on a smaller scale than the April tea party rallies, it still represents “a great opportunity to mobilize that support.”

Wonder what kind of questions Sanford and Perry will answer.  I have a feeling it will be more along the lines of complaining about spending, we shouldn’t spend any money, where’s the tea, and lets secede.  Ok, I know and hope people won’t really ask those types of questions seriously.  I don’t see how this can help the GOP when the last Tea Party was only positive amongst republicans and most likely did not bring a lot of outsiders into their camp.  I happen to think it’s not smart for Gov. Mark Sanford to go into something where he’s going to be praised for not accepting some of the stimulus money.   Mainly because he was getting bad press for not accepting the money when the state needs it.  Who knows, this could have a positive effect as this Tea Party is done with a smaller audience.  Most likely the GOP will filter out the crazies so they don’t become the latest show on youtube.  Just, don’t be surprised.

…But Steele Is Right About Romney!

CNN today reported that the Romney camp is angry at Steele over his comments on Mitt’s Mormonism.  The thing here is that Steele was absolutely correct. First, here’s Michael Steele’s comments on a radio show about Romney in response to a caller, from ThinkProgress,

This is from CNN,

romneyquit2“Sometimes when you shoot from the hip, you miss the target,” said Romney spokesman Eric Ferhnstrom. “This is one of those times.”

A Romney aide noted that the former Massachusetts governor won the Conservative Political Action Conference’s annual straw poll the past three years, won 11 presidential primaries and caucuses, and earned 4.2 million votes by the time he left the race in February of last year.

Actually I think if anything, people should be mad at Steele for suggesting that republicans are bigots.  Nonetheless, Steele is right.  Apart from the fact that Romney did give the appearance of a flip flopper, he did have issues with the base, based on his religion.  Mitt Romney may have won 11 states, granted non of those states were Southern and another he won based on name recognition alone (Michigan).  Others states he won because McCain either wasn’t competing hard or they had a large Mormon populations like Utah.  Other then that, the base didn’t really warm to Romney.  Even those who rejected McCain because they thought he was a flip flopper, just moved to Huckabee’s camp.  And that definitely became apparent when Huckabee was obviously flaunting his Christianity with subliminal crosses in his TV ads at the expense of Romney.

The point is that Steele is correct.  The base never fully accepted Romney because of his religion.  I actually like Mitt Romney but he needs to come to grips that the republican party isn’t all that accepting of “others”.  And, if republicans were accepting of Romney, then why did he have to give a major speech about his religion during the campaign in order to “reassure” republicans that he was “normal”.  The party is split, unfortunately religious conservatives are the most influential part of the party.  But, I guess it took the RNC’s own Michael Steele to remind us of how exclusive the republican party is.  Thanks, Steele!
