I obviously follow politics very closely and visit a lot of sites. Sometimes I notice things that makes me question either why the republicans are making a big deal of an insignificant non-issue or do the things they do! Usually I view most of this as a sign of desperation within the republican party.
Conservatives for the most part are still willing to vote for a quitter. Sarah Palin didn’t even finish one term as governor of Alaska, because she can’t handle attacks. To be honest, I always thought of the republican party specializing and being good at political attacks. If they’re willing to dish it out and vote for a candidate that can’t take it, I’m not sure what to think anymore. Also, is there not another candidate that’s smart, politically savvy, and can tough it out? I can only think of one name, but it’s definitely a sign of desperation that republicans only can turn to Sarah Palin that has shown herself to be unqualified and a quitter. With her profile has boosted among conservatives since she quit her job. Do they think Alaska is better without her? Do they agree with her position that Alaska can do more without her? Really? Think about it!
Speaking of the GOP’s ability to attack, which apparently they aren’t as creative as they used to be. Childish attack lines are unbecoming of savvy politicians. Recently, Sen. Kit Bonds called Obama’s Russia trip a “pile of manure“. Yep, how unnecessary was that. Sen. DeMint, in his effort to bash Obama compared America to Nazi Germany. I really don’t understand the need for unnecessary attack lines. I know it could be a culture related clash. I usually see these type of attack lines as an inability of the person to formulate an adult argument. It’s kind of like when Bill O’Reily yells the same points over and over again to make it look like he’s making the better point.
I’m on the “interwebs” a lot, if you visit a site long enough you start to notice changes. The Hill’s Briefing Room is one of those sites. So I visit the site today to see that The White House misspelled Obama’s name. All they did was leave the “C” out of Barack. I visit The Hill’s site a lot and it really doesn’t get hundreds of comments on insignificant stories or even important posts about policy. There’s over 300 comments mentioning, Obama’s birth certificate, Muslim slurs, racist comments…just because the “C” was left out of Barack’s name. This doesn’t represent the whole republican party, but it’s rather amusing to see this much activity on The Hill’s comment section with these type of comments. For what it’s worth there were some comments mentioning the vile nature of most the other comments. And on another post, they turn a post about Sen. Kit Bonds into an attack on one commenter and Acorn. Seeing as how this is not a normal occurrence on this site, I’m putting this under a sign of desperation lol.
It could very well be the Tea Party type people that made the comments mentioned previously. I remember the good ol’ days when the Tea Party was “popular” and republicans were claiming that the Tea Parties were helping the GOP. Where’s those senators, mayors, governors, and Fox Newsers at now. They have appeared to distance themselves from the Tea Parties. No popular politicians are making a big deal about them now. Very desperate attempt for republicans distance themselves from the Teabaggers they used to love so much.
Then think about the way they’ve treated the Sotomayor case. The first thing they went after was her race. In reality she along with other judges were just upholding the New Haven ruling. They were so desperate that they felt the need to promote their manufactured culture war. And now in their latest desperate attempt, they’re going to parade around and exploit a firefighter she ruled against to make their case, even though they know Sotomayor will still be confirmed…very desperate.
Another sign of desperation is the latest trend of editing Obama’s speech to mean something completely different then what was really said. Lets get this right, Obama says nothing controversial but Fox News needs something to promote their rightwing agenda and keep up with the 24 hour news cycles, so they edit Obama’s speech. Not the first time this has happened at Fox News, and the latest peasant to do this, again, was Sean Hannity. Apparently they can’t think of anything substantive to attack him on so they manufacture their own news…very desperate.
These desperate attempts by the GOP is a sign of immaturity and inability to form a clear adult argument. I for one can see right through it and I hope most Americans can whether they support the GOP or not. Though these desperate attempts may be entertaining for the time being, they are just another method of deceiving and being obstructionist to real change.

To be fair, Palin was viciously and needlessly attacked by all angles, including several news outlets that at the very least perpetuated nasty rumors, and in some cases outright slandered her. I refuse to vote for a politician already on the taxpayer dime who is campaigning for higher office. So in that right, I have to support her. But that’s where it stops. I disagree with her tactics and platform in many ways.
I believe you ARE correct: The GOP is in desperation. The thing is that this means nothing. All the Democratic or Republican party are is fundraising and marketing machines. If one or both are faultering, it doesn’t mean anything negative to the people whether they are in the party or not. Frankly, because of this, both major parties end up doing more damage than good to the country as they have succeeded into numbing the voters into accepting pitches like “the s want to take your freedom”… basically, “vote for me because I’m not in THAT evil party”. It’s hype, and many in our numbed public seem to buy it. Instead of focusing on important specific issues, our public focuses mostly on red or blue.
Interwebs… classic! Big Simpsons fan.
There are many politicians who have lies spread about them and they seem to deal with it. It was definitely wrong to spread rumors about her kids but that didn’t come from MSM, that came from online bloggers over at Daily Kos, and it didn’t help when she put her kids out there as a way to promote her image. In the overall scheme of things I do think it was a good idea for her to quit b/c it was hurting her state, but that’s where it stops for me.
I think even though we are mainly red or blue as a public, we still focus on fixing the same issues, it’s just how to fix the issues. And if Dems or GOP don’t perform well then they don’t get a lot in donations. I think we would be better off if the GOP was a stronger party because I believe in a strong two party system as that’s party of our democracy. On the other hand, even though it may complicate things further, there definitely needs to be a strong third party that’s independent and not far left or right whackos.
I’m a huge Simpsons fan, been watching since I was a little girl…probably poor choice to let your kid watch that at 7yrs old, but hey, I turned out decent
“There are many politicians who have lies spread about them and they seem to deal with it.”
– Not to the level Palin endured. I’ve never seen anything like it. Claiming affairs, shots at the kids, false ethics violations, etc.
Besides constantly being attacked, Palin felt like she can do more outside of office. She understood that she was wasting money by staying in office being a lame duck. Look how many politicians waste money running for President, they hold a government position (getting paid) and spending 100% of their time in office campaigning. Not saying Obama was the only one doing it, McCain and Palin did it also. In my opinion, you should resign from office before running, make the stakes higher.
Sotomayer is fair game. The firefighters took a test. It was completely fair and she ruled against it because too many whites became chiefs. A test determined who was more qualified, it wasn’t someone looking over records and saying, “I trust that this person would do a better job because he is white.”
And if Fox News is so bad, then why are they the number 1 news network? Didn’t the other news network constantly attack the Bush Administration? The news should be fair and balanced and Fox is doing that. It doesn’t seem like that because CBS, CNN, MSNBC are drooling over Obama (is that fair?).
The Conservatives can’t be desperate if Obama is giving them the fuel for the fire. What has that administration done so far in office? At least Bush did something. He didn’t have to apologize to anyone or sympathize with our enemies.
I’m not saying the Conservatives are perfect, because they’re not. There are more RINOs now than before. They need a serious sit down and figure out their priorities. I’m just saying that they seem desperate because the media is portraying them as desperate. You didn’t see the media portraying the Liberals attacking Bush as desperate.
“And if Fox News is so bad, then why are they the number 1 news network”
They’re not bad. But they’re #1 because they are the only one catering to the political right. The rest are for the left, and are all fighting for the same market.
First, there were two latinos that were ruled against in that case, it’s very flawed to say that she did so because of racial reason. She was simply upholding New Haven’s decision that the tests were flawed.
As far as Fox News goes, I think LOUDelf pretty much put it in a more eloquent way then my typical response to such as argument.
Ugh, completely sick of arguing about whether or not Obama apologizes to enemies. Went over this through the campaign, maybe you can provide some footage of him apologizing and maybe I’ll respond in a more energetic way or something.
RINOs are basically republicans that have a different point of view on how to solve issues but still uphold the basic republican principals. Calling other republicans RINOs is why people were put off by the GOP. How about opening up the tent slightly and let moderate supporters in. IMO liberals constantly going on TV complaining about the republicans shutting them out was desperate in my view because as a minority party, you have to work to find ways to get things done. Patraeus/Betrayus crap that MoveOn.org did was desperate. It happens to both parties but to the extent/more occurances the GOP has taken it, it’s very sad.
I think that Obama is the best thing to happen to the GOP and Sarah, Keep up the good work Obama, your depression is putting people out of work , many of them voted for you
