Republicans Politicize Flight 253 Terror Attempt

Posted on

You’re not surprised…are you?  Well to those who do not know, flight 253 went from Amsterdam to Metro Detroit on Christmas.  Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab tried to set off an explosive device but a nearby  seater pounced on him and thus prevented a deadly situation.

How was Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab able to get on the plane with a common explosive device that authorities said is easily detectable?  That’s a good question to ask over in Amsterdam and Nigeria.  If he passed screening at Nigeria’s airport then most likely he would have not had to go through extra screening at the Amsterdam airport.  Unfortunately it was reported on CNN that other passengers thought security at Amsterdam airport was lax that day.  Even if it wasn’t Nigeria is not known for having good security at their airport.

How is Pres. Obama responsible for this situation that took place overseas in another country’s airport?  That’s a question to ask republicans since they’re claiming that to be the case.

First, Rep. Peter King came out and compared Pres. Obama’s response to that of Bush flying over Katrina.  Really? Sorry to tell Rep. King that knowing the facts before giving an impulsive speech with little substance is Obama’s style.  But, suuuure, Rep. King wants Obama to make a speech before he knows all the facts…of course he would, cause it’s the way Pres. Bush did it!  He also suggested that Pres. Obama dropped the word “terrorist” therefore, that’s why Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was able to get on the plane to commit a terror attack.  I guess full-body scanners, metal detectors and x-rays can’t do their job unless the word “terrorist” is written on the bomb.

Then, Sen. Jim DeMint thought this was the perfect time to be the best republican he can be and bash Unions.  He thinks unionization is the problem with airport security.  Did he ever think that if unionization was somehow worsening airport security, that this would have never happened?  Ya know, seeing as how the security breach happened in Nigeria and Amsterdam.  Notice how he also threw in Gitmo as well.  Would un-unionizing US airports make since anyways?  I’m not the biggest fan of unions from a political standpoint, but without unions there would be high employee turnover, low wages, less skilled workers…no one would you want that at an airport.  Anyways, here’s Sen. DeMint going off-topic, not being relevant, and politicizing the terror attempt.

Rep. Hoekstra (R-MI) thinks it’s “fair” to blame this issue on Pres. Obama.

It would be great if Pres. Obama can be “all-knowing” and watch over and be at all the embassies we have all over the world.  Unfortunately, he can’t and I would suspect he’s not up at night monitoring the hundreds of people on the No-Fly and Watch list and screening each one individually all on his own.  Hoekstra is obviously trying to use this as a political issue because from where I’m sitting, this is clearly not his fault.  If anything let the investigation actually happen as to why Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab wasn’t put on the No-Fly list.  Either way, the investigation would not show that Pres. Obama was responsible or could have done anything differently.

Also, if this whole thing is Pres. Obama’s fault…then should he get full credit for the ZERO lives that were lost?  And by republican standards…should Pres. Bush be responsible for the 3000+ lives lost on 9/11?  The answers to both those questions should be no.

Top 5 Posts Of 2009

Posted on

Well the year is almost at an end.  That’s not entirely bad because 2009 sucked in many ways and 2010 is sure to bring something good…or bad if you’re an incumbent politician.  Anyways, here’s the top 5 posts of 2009.

1. Psycho Alert: Mom Literally Cries Over Obama’s Education Speech

Who can forget the Obama Education Speech controversy.  right-wingers, as always, stirring up fake controversy and scaring suburban moms all over the country into thinking Obama wants to indoctrinate their kids.  Here was one mom that was literally crying because Obama wanted to tell kids to stay in school.  The controversy itself caused some schools to not even air the harmless speech and in the end everyone including school principals looked stupid after the speech took place.

2.  Gov. Sanford Unfaithful With A Lady In Argentina

Should probably get the award for letting us find out he cheated by giving us the weirdest excuses.  His initial excuse was that he was hiking in the Appalachian.  Unfortunately, that was a horrible excuse since at the time there’s naked hiking that goes on, on the Appalachian.  He eventually got caught and gave a tearful cheaters admission.

3. (UPDATE) Clear Video: Oakland Subway Shooting Of Oscar Grant by Police Officer

Who can forget the Oakland subways shooting where a police officer was accused of wrongfully shooting Oscar Grant.  The video was shocking and later the cop did face consequences.

4. SHOCKING VIDEO: Glenn Beck Uses Vicks To Cry On Cue

Video of Beck crying on cue was amusing…therefore I posted the video.  It was actually for a photo shoot for Time Magazine, but one can’t help but wonder…how does Glenn Beck cry on cue on live television.  Who the hell really cries everyday because they love America.  We all love America, but do you cry everytime you think about your love of country?  I don’t.

5.  Poetry Jam At The White House (Pictures)

Well, pictures of the Obamas, ESPECIALLY Sasha and Malia Obama gets a lot of visitors.  They are the most popular kids in America right now.  Also, who doesn’t love to see Michelle Obama looking fabulous.  Check out the pictures.

Alan Grayson Wants Holder To Sentence Parody Website Creator

Posted on

House member, Alan Grayson (D-FL), sent a memo to Attorney General, Eric Holder to sentence a website creator.  The website in question is mycongressmanisnuts.com it’s a parody site of congressmanwithguts.com which Grayson uses to collect money for re-election.  Politico got a hold of the memo.

Aside from wanting to waste Holder’s time with a woman who most likely would be pardoned, doesn’t this contradict how Grayson himself got popular?  He railed against the GOP with his famous “Die Quickly” remark and they tried to silence him.  The only reason he became popular was because he capitalized on the fact that he wouldn’t back down.  It’s not really unusual for critics to parody someone and try to get them out of office.

Freedom of speech would definitely be compromised if some level of charges were brought on this website owner.  I don’t think they will, but I’d rather point out the hypocrisy and cry baby mentality of Grayson.  To be honest, he seems to waste his time arguing over trivial matters by getting involved in sideshow politics.  What has he done other than mouth off and vote the party line?

….if it’s taking you a long time to come up with an answer it’s because he’s done next to nothing.

What Grade Would The GOP Get?

Posted on

So everyone is talking about how Pres. Obama graded himself a B+ for this first year in his administration.  Many say it should be lower, some say higher, some just say incomplete.  I think B+ is sufficient for this year though, I’d probably give Obama a B(-), but it depends on where you stand on certain issues.  I would have preferred to see more done on Climate Change but I’m happy with the effort put into stimulating the economy, though more could have been done.  Unfortunately since we do have a two-party system, the stimulus couldn’t have everything that dems would have put in it to move the process faster but nonetheless the rate of unemployment is slowing.  The issue of Afghanistan from my view was handled well.  Also, I’m happy with the work Joe Biden has done in getting out the message and being there but not in an overbearing controlling way like Dick Cheney was.

So, now it’s the GOP’s turn.  What should their grade be?  They were the party of “NO” throughout this whole year.  They couldn’t find a clear message for most of the year until health care became a huge issue.  Now their message is a cross between “you lie!” and random conspiracy theories.  Their party leaders for this year have been, Limbaugh then Glenn Beck.  As far as substance, the party has failed, I can’t think of anything they haven’t obstructed and anything they have done to better America.  Then when they tried to put out an economic plan, the plan included no numbers of estimates.  They also tried to put out a health care plan, the plan included no cost estimates.

I’d give the GOP a gracious “D”.

Fidel Castro Hates Obama’s Smile

Posted on

In today’s irrelevant, yet opportunistic time to show him falling from grace via .GIF file, Fidel Castro made it his business to tell us that Obama’s smile can’t be trusted.  This is via Reuters,

In a letter read by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez at a gathering of leftist leaders in Havana, Castro said the United States was backing rightist movements in a bid to weaken Chavez and other regional socialist leaders.

“The empire’s real intentions are obvious, this time beneath the kindly smile and African American face of Barack Obama,” Castro’s letter said.

“The empire is mobilizing behind rightist forces in Latin America to strike Venezuela and, in doing so, strike (other leftist) states,” the letter said.

Oh sure, like Castro would know anything about being trustworthy.  A tyrant dictator that stole elections and had a repressive regime, that’s a sure sign of trustworthness.   Basically Castro is saying the U.S. is using Cold War style tactics to move out of the leftist of Latin America.  The way I see it, this is just a conspiracy theory.  It’s actually a very plausible scenario but until then, I just enjoy seeing Castro’s slow fall to irrelevancy.

Teabaggers Aren’t Raciest

Posted on

aye, their words, not mine.  This sign was made for a town hall meeting on health care reform, via LATFT.

I suppose Teabaggers could be correct in saying they aren’t the raciest.  I mean, even though they call themselves teabaggers (very misleading), they are pretty old and I doubt they can actually teabag.  They’re far from being racy.  I’m also slightly curious why it appears to be an accent mark over “We” in the second “sentence”…is that British?  Are these secretly British people trying to disrupt the health care debate…?  Also, why is there an extra space between “Nor” and “puppets-”.    Based on the likelihood of creating typos, was that extra space meant to be filled to create the word “Norway”….? Also where’s the consistency?  Why use the word’s “I DO” instead of “We DO”.  Whoever was paid good money to make this sign must be a narcissist…
