The 2012 election just got a bit dull. A few days ago, Fox News show host Mike Huckabee announced that he wouldn’t be running for President in 2012. His reasoning why is relatively unclear to me other than something about God telling him not to run. Which is kind of sad…I actually liked Mike Huckabee in comparison to Palin, Bachmann, and Cain. Here’s his farewell, speech on his Fox News show,
Next up is poor old Donald Trump, who started off pretty much in the lead. That is, until Pres. Obama ruined his chance with a few comedic lines at the White House Correspondants Dinner. I mean, honestly, if that was all that it took to get Trump out of considering a race, then Colbert and Stewart are horrible at their jobs. Trump ultimately decided to not run and continue with running his business and having a show on NBC. Some can speculate whether or not The Donald did this for publicity, but I kind of think he was truly considering a run. I mean, he went through a lot of trouble to make himself look like a buffoon that there’s no reason to think he wasn’t seriously considering a run.
So which potential candidate ultimately benefits from these two dropping out? Romney and possibly Bachmann. Who will send subliminal signals to the far right about Christianity and reminding voters that Romney is a Moron :O ??? Why I’d say Romney is pretty much in the clear to the win the nomination with Huckabee out of the race. And Trump leaving, leaves Romney to be the obvious choice to the fiscal conservatives. Romney is pretty much going to be the front runner, as he is the only viable candidate right now anyways.
Bachmann may only benefit in that she can be the replacement candidate to the social conservatives that adore Huckabee. Meanwhile, with Trump out of the race and not whining about not being able to go online and look at Pres. Obama’s birth certificate….this means Bachmann doesn’t have to go too far right in order to bag the looneys while still being able to appeal to the decent (within reason) minded republicans.
Well, I am truly sad to see Huckabee and Trump go. I was especially hoping Trump would get nominated in the end. It would have been even nicer is there was a Trump/Palin option. I guess it was wishful thinking that Pres. Obama was going to have it that easy in 2012
