Hypocrite Joe Wilson Lies, Says Obamacare Repealed

Joe Wilson famous for shouting out “you lie” to Pres. Obama during the State of the Union, actually lied to all his twitter followers.  In his orgasmic excitement about republicans wasting time to symbolically vote to repeal healthcare reform (even though they know it won’t make it in the senate), Joe Wilson tweeted this,

We need to be perfectly clear here.  Republicans did not repeal healthcare reform, they VOTED to repeal healthcare reform.  It must make it through the Senate before anyone can even conceive the notion that healthcare reform will be repealed.  And with the Senate being controlled by Democrats, I highly doubt it would be repealed.

Unfortunately for the American people, this symbolic vote was a waste of time.  When the House could have been focused on fixing issues that could pass the Senate, they decided to show off for the tea party (which has a high unfavorable rating) and vote to repeal healthcare reform.

Also, unfortuate for the republican party that the facts are not on their side.

Healthcare job killing? Here’s what non-partisan Factcheck.org summarizes, click here for details with proof showing why healthcare reform is not job killing.

We find:

  • Independent, nonpartisan experts project only a “small” or “minimal” impact on jobs, even before taking likely job gains in the health care and insurance industries into account.
  • The House Republican leadership, in a report issued Jan. 6, badly misrepresents what the Congressional Budget Office has said about the law. In fact, CBO is among those saying the effect “will probably be small.”
  • The GOP also cites a study projecting a 1.6 million job loss — but fails to mention that the study refers to a hypothetical employer mandate that is not part of the new law.
  • The same study cited by the GOP also predicts an offsetting gain of 890,000 jobs in hospitals, doctors’ offices and insurance companies — a factor not mentioned by the House leadership.

Healthcare hurts senior citizens? Republicans keep talking about cuts in medicare, unfortunately they don’t want to inform senior citizens that it’s probably because most of their services will not only be available more often, but available for FREE more often! Here’s a bit of the break via Forbes.

Here are a few of the medical services that will now be available at no cost every twelve months (more often where appropriate.)

  • Annual physical exams
  • Bone mass measurement
  • Cardiovascular screenings*
  • Colorectal screening
  • Diabetes screening
  • Diabetes self-management training
  • Flu Shots
  • Glaucoma tests
  • Hepatitis Shots
  • Mammograms
  • HIV screening
  • Pap tests and pelvic exams
  • Prostrate screening*
  • Smoking Cessation

* In these instances, Medicare beneficiaries will receive tests at no cost but will be responsible for 20% of the cost for the office visit to the physician.

Currently, many seniors do not get an annual physical or deal with many of the issues covered by the list due to inability to pay. The failure to confront these issues often lead to serious illnesses going undiscovered – or discovered too late – resulting in longer and more expensive treatment and hospital stays – not to mention a severe decline in the quality of life.

Of course, with more seniors able to get that annual physical along with the other screening programs that will become available at no charge, there will need to be physicians available to them to provide these services.

In order to help insure that there are a sufficient number of doctors available, Medicare will begin paying higher sums to incentivize the physicians to remain in the Medicare program.

The next major change will greatly assist those who fall within what is known as the Medicare Part D doughnut hole. As the law stands today, Medicare participants are pretty much on their own after they have spent $2,840 per year on prescription drugs until such time as they reach $6,448 per year, the point at which the government steps back in to help.

….

Currently, certified nurse midwives are paid 65% of what a physician is paid by Medicare when treating patients. Beginning tomorrow, certified midwives will receive 100% of the payment rate given to physicians for performing the same services. The result should be growth in the number of people choosing careers as midwives. This will provide a significant measure of relief in caring for senior women living in areas short on physicians.

Those among other reasons are what the republicans are lying about.  Good thing is that based on polling data, the American people aren’t really that fooled by the republican’s attacks on healthcare reform.  But, lets let the childish republican house members pat themselves on the back, but eventually, they will need to start being adults and start coming up with ideas on how to solve the nation’s problems.

NBC Suspends Keith Olbermann, Liberals Go Batshit

Just another blow to democrats after Tuesday is the suspension by NBC of the most popular host on MSNBC, Keith Olbermann.  Liberals are taking to twitter going crazy with calls for petitions and calling MSNBC,

Now I’m not necessarily the biggest fan of Keith Olbermann as stated plenty of times on this blog and elsewhere and I stopped watching his show years ago.  However, I am completely understanding of what liberals must be going through.  There’s really no one else like him, that speaks for the hardcore liberal base.  I have mixed feelings,

First, the argument against NBC seems to be one of, “Why suspend him when Fox News hosts have blatantly donated to republicans!”.  Well, the truth is that, NBC has higher standards than Fox News.  I don’t even like this argument because it seems to put Fox News and NBC in the same category as “news media” when clearly Fox News is not real news, but mainly propaganda for republicans.

Next, Keith Olbermann shouldn’t have donated to campaigns without getting permission first.  MSNBC policy states,

If a contribution, monetary or otherwise, to a candidate or group with a political or social agenda could create the appearance of a conflict of interest due to the employee’s responsibilities at MSNBC.com, the contribution must receive the prior approval of the section Executive Producer or Editor in Chief. Any participation in a political campaign must be reported to the employee’s immediate manager.

Which is why the argument of saying, “Joe Scarborough made contributions too” is ineffective.  Maybe he got approval?

But, what about NBC? He is clearly a staunch liberal, are they just now realizing this?  Why the harsh treatment?  Clearly this gives the impression that someone at NBC does not like Olbermann.  Simply taking him off the air for a week, no pay would have been sufficient punishment.

Also, NBC may want to keep journalistic integrity among their journalists.  The problem is that Keith Olbermann isn’t a journalist, just like Glenn Beck or Sean Hannity isn’t a journalist.  They are commentators that just happen to have their own shows during prime-time.  I believe there should be very different rules for real journalists and commentators when it comes to contributions.  I also don’t think the public, even teabaggers, are dumb enough to believe the Keith Olbermann and Sean Hannitys’ of the world are real journalists that have ever showed unbiased integrity.

My prediction is that Keith Olbermann will come back next week or the week after with an on air apology.  He will also likely cry in the process.  But, I don’t think he will lose his show.  Unfortunately for MSNBC, they don’t get as good as ratings as Fox News and they can’t afford to lose Keith Olbermann.  He created his job security by being a sane voice in the political talkshow realm and gaining a huge audience with great ratings.  MSNBC losing Keith Olbermann will only leave them with LOCKUP….and that only airs late nights and on the weekends where their only base audience will be a bunch of rednecks, old ladies and some bored teenagers.

Don’t Blame GOP For SC Alvin Greene’s Primary Win

They are expected to place plants in political races.  That’s how dirty and sneaky the republican party is.  The blame needs to go with the Democratic Party in South Carolina.  If you haven’t heard this story yet, Alvin Greene mysteriously won the Democratic Primary for Senate.  How did he win? Nobody knows, I’m not even sure Greene himself knows.  He didn’t campaign, according to him people know him through “word of mouth”.

Rep. Clyburn thinks he’s a plant, most likely placed by the republican party.  I completely understand the skepticism, lets think about it.  The guy is unemployed and has felony charges against him.  He lacks good oratory skills and he barely campaigned and few people know his plans and he can’t even speak in details regarding issues like education.  He is a for sure loser against republican Jim DeMint.  It also seems odd that this is happening during a time when incumbent Jim DeMint (R-SC) would be most vulnerable.

However, no matter how likely Alvin Greene was put there by republican plants, this is still the Democratic Party’s fault.  They dropped the ball, not paying attention to what’s going on.  The guy has felony charges against him.  How did they not know this before? How did they not stop him running in the SC democratic primary race?  How did they not know that republicans would attempt to place a plant?

These are all the questions that should be going through their head.  And lets just say Alvin Greene wasn’t a plant.  Could he have just won because no one knows who the hell the most qualified candidate was? Yeah, his name was Vic Rawl….

Just in case you’re a voter in South Carolina and never heard of this guy you possibly voted for, here’s your first opportunity to get to know him.

Yes, whether he is a plant by the republican party or not.  Lets blame this foolery on the South Carolina Democratic Party.

Let The Passage Of Health Care Reform Be A Lesson To Reform Foes

Yep, the House passed Health Care Reform yesterday and I’m happy.  Granted, I’m also a democrat that supports health care reform.  I could sit here and write about how the bill was passed and the benefits of it, but there’s a ton of other blogs yapping about the same thing.  My take on this is that it should be a lesson for not only Tea Partiers (aka, teabaggers), but it should be a lesson to the insurance and other special interest groups that spent millions to try to stop this bill.

To the Tea Party and idiots alike….

Yelling, screaming and attempts to intimidate at town halls, won’t get your way.  Yelling racial epithets, anti-gay slurs, and hanging effigies…won’t get your way.  Carrying over-dramatic, scare tactic posters won’t get your way.

To the GOP…

Spreading lies about the health care reform and voting no without reading the bill…won’t get your way.  Saying the bill funds abortion, will kill grandma, and illegal aliens, when it clearly does not, will not get your desired results.  Trying to scare vulnerable democrats into voting against it, won’t get your way.

To the special interest…

Pouring millions of dollars into scare tactic ads will not help your cause when you’re hiking prices of customers at the same time.

So, what works?!  From what I can see, reading the bills, explaining what’s in it, telling the truth is what works and contributing ideas is what works.  I’m sure, some Americans are opposed to this, because they’re watching Fox News or believing lies of GOP members.

The point is that civil discussion is what gets things done.  If instead of worrying about politics, if the GOP would have cooperated, they could have been on the side of historic legislation that will make American lives easier.  22 republican amendments are in the health care reform bill, yet, no republicans even wanted to vote for it.  It’s clearly because they think not voting on it would help their politics future.  I think many Americans see this and many Americans will not give the party of “No” an automatic victory this November.

The mob campaigning didn’t work during the 2008 election and it didn’t work yesterday.  I doubt, republicans will learn their lesson that civil discussion and being on the side of Americans and not corporate interest is best.  But, I can only hope.

Republicans Failed At The Health Care Summit

This was supposed to be a substantive discussion on improving the health care reform legislation.  Unfortunately, the republican party didn’t get the memo that they need to present ideas and not campaign rhetoric.  It constantly consisted of republican members telling lies and Pres. Obama having to be like an adult and teach these kids a lesson.  Case and point, John Boehner who wants to keep bringing up the lie that the bill funds abortion.  How many times do we have to go through this?!  Health Care Reform does not fund abortions, it’s not in the bill, it can’t be in  the bill because it’s federal law that abortions not be covered!  But like always, Boehner has little to offer so he runs to his little black book of GOP talking points.  Here’s the exchange between Obama and Boehner, later on even Pelosi called him out for lying.

Like mentioned before on this blog, John McCain could not stop campaigning during the summit.  He only spewed talking points to benefit himself because he knows the republican base he needs doesn’t care about substance.

Next up and the last example of failure was Eric Cantor.  As always, he brought his favorite prop, the long health care bill.  It was highly unnecessary.

It’s really a shame that Pres. Obama has to tell republicans that bills are long and yes, there’s a lot of words and stuff.  I know the GOP doesn’t like to read because it might cause them get facts mixed up with their talking points, but c’mon.  Just read the bill and you might have better ideas to contribute.  Here’s more of the exchange between Pres. Obama and Eric Cantor,

Again, very little substance but instead what we have gotten from the republicans were a replay of last year.  In my opinion, this is only proof that most of the GOP is unwilling to work with democrats and therefore they need to get the bill through with or without republican support.

It’s a shame, that even considering that some republican ideas are in these bills, that they are unwilling to compromise and vote for a bill that will save thousands of Americans from dying because they don’t have health insurance.  A bill that will not allow insurance companies to rip off their customers because there is no competition. A bill that would save employers money and not take as much from pay checks to fund employer based health care.  Unfortunately, democrats are dealing with facts while republicans want to continue with their talking points.  It’s pretty obvious who cares about their personal gains instead of the American people.
