Here’s another edition of Recommended Reads, a recap of stories over the weekend that I think are worth reading and that I wish I had all the time to blog about.
Let’s start with our favorite guy, Joe The Plumber. Sorry, but it’s somewhat amusing to me but I actually don’t recommend that you care and might want to skip to the other paragraphs. So, Joe made an appearance on stage for the conservative base at a Media Research Center event. His job, I’m assuming, was to go on stage and crack a joke or two, “Be funny”. But, Joe wasn’t really funny, just awkward. He said, “God, all this love and everything in the room — I’m horny,”. Yeah, maybe the republicans should just leave Joe the Plumber, just in case he was only “half” joking. We don’t need people developing any weird “habits”. I actually wasn’t going to show the video but since he was only on stage for 2 minutes, I figured, why not!
By the way, the DNC only raised 3.2 million dollars, which is ridiculous considering the RNC raised 5.1 million and even that was being as oddly low for the RNC. Though, neither party is at a loss for money, it’s at least a perception issue.
Well, I would hate to be Palin, at any time, but particularly this time. Her legal trouble has put her more then a half million dollars in debt. She doesn’t even make that much money in a year. Maybe all the Sarah Palin PACs could help her out, raise money to keep her from facing the consequences of her actions. Palin is probably more popular then the RNC, I’m sure they could come up with more them 5.1 million dollars if they tried. Speaking of the Palin, money, and the state of Alaska, Palin isn’t accepting $288 million of the stimulus money for her state. You’d think she would want to use that money to lower the poverty rate in Alaska, or maybe install programs that would lower the level of incest and rape in Alaska, which is so high. How about helping the other people in Alaska that might not live in the cities but in small villages. I really don’t get why a few Governors will not accept parts of the money that is supposed to go to their state, yet accept some of the money. If this stimulus package proves to be successful in other states then there’s going to be a lot of angry Alaskans.
By the way, Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina is also rejecting some of the money…$700
million of it!! He is still going to take the rest of the money that’s going to the state. Apparently Sanford doesn’t like the way the money is going to be spent. I guess creating jobs, boosting infrastructure, building better schools and all the other crap isn’t worth putting an extra $700 million into.
Something that I’m definitely glad to hear about and hope works. Obama is set to finalize plans that would increase presence at the Mexican border. This will be to fight the constant drug trafficking that takes place along the border. There’s going to be an overall comprehensive border security plan and this seems like a great place to start.
Wondering whats the happenings with First Lady Michelle Obama? She took some kids to the White House and they planted a vegetable garden. It’s called an organic kitchen garden. There’s also supposed to be a bee hive there as well. She has recently met with celebrities and students in DC to discuss women empowerment, career goals, and fashion. And if there’s one thing Michelle Obama has achieved its making people want to work out to get the “Michelle Obama Arms“. Also, Michelle Obama is getting her own comic book. The book is obviously not put out by the White House but Bluewater Productions, its supposed to be a biographical comic. I’ve only enjoyed a few comics and none of them were biographical so I don’t think I’ll be reading this one, sounds kind of boring. They should have her as someone who is First lady by day and protector of Washington by night….ok, that might be equally boring, but they could have come up with something cooler. If I was in a comic I would demand that I have a superpower that I can’t have in real life.
There’s a bill in Texas saying creationist should be given Masters of Science degrees by private schools. I just wanted to add that this is crazy and they probably wouldn’t get hired anyways. I actually have an idea of what could happen if this bill passed but I will wait and see. Who knows, it is Texas so they might actually pass it.
